Autumn Morning Walk @ Scarborough Maine State Beach Park

Today is beautiful, and here are things I saw (and heard) along the way during my walk this morning.

My favorite time of year for walking on the beach is NOW through the spring; basically off-season after the tourists leave.

I’ve never been a summer beach bum. Lay on a towel for hours? Nope.

I’m good with solitude and space, even if it means bundling up in the Maine winter with a hot drink in hand.

But right now it’s still warm and breezy.

  1. Looks like a lot of fun!! I hear it's in the thirties your way now.

I was thinking our Piliated Woodpeckers sounds like that. I've been trying to get a good photo of one for years, but they keep laughing at me. They fly so funny. I think because they fly among the trees, they pull their wings close to the body on each stroke leading to loss of lift, so the go up and down a lot as they fly along.

  2. Dr J! Nooo right now it's in the low 60s. Perfection! At night is HAS been getting into the upper 30s and low 40s, but our days have been warm and comfortable. Thankfully we haven't had a freeze yet so the tomatoes are still growing!

The way you describe the flight of the Pileated Woodpeckers sounds like Woodstock!
