Our Valentine’s Day 2018

It started out as a frugal and practical Valentine’s Day which doesn’t have to be incompatible with romance, especially when we’re budgeting for a wedding later this year! Whole Foods mailed me an old-fashioned paper marketing piece–maybe they do snail mail for the 50 and over demographic–advertising a special Valentine’s Day promotion for Amazon Prime members.  For only $19.95 they are offering two dozen fair trade certified long stem roses! I told Wayne I thought that was a smart idea. Additionally, I pointed out that we could buy them on Monday, his day off, and enjoy them right away, not just Valentine’s Day. Flowers in February do much for the soul. He agreed. However, we (he) veered off the path a bit…

I saw another bouquet I really liked in addition to the two dozen roses we selected together. That was a different arrangement and not with special pricing. He said he wanted me to have those, too, since he liked the way I smiled when I looked at them (aw), so we left Whole Foods with those as well.

They smell wonderful!

The bonus bouquet color coordinates with my phone, don’t you think?

But I also like them in our bedroom…

Yesterday I made over two dozen chocolate-dipped strawberries.

I drizzled myself with chocolate, but not intentionally. I had accidentally touched the inside of the double boiler with my knuckle while dipping a strawberry and jumped. Hot melted chocolate dripping from the berry landed in little decorative lines on the front of my shirt. Oops.

Fresh from dipping, the kitchen was filled with the scent of chocolate and roses…

Ready! Chocolate set!

Wayne called them “sublime.” I sent him to work this morning with a half dozen to share with his coworkers.

I made him a collage card from a vintage upcycled Valentine in my collection.

Since it’s Ash Wednesday we’re abstaining from meat today, and will be enjoying vegetarian Thai from our favorite local restaurant tonight.

I was about to publish this post when the doorbell rang.

Wayne sent me more flowers?!? Happy Valentine’s Day!
