Our Wedding Eve and Morning at The Nonantum

Wayne and I spent Friday night at the Nonantum Resort in Kennebunkport. When we arrived it was a beautiful sunny day…

Love this room!

So charming.

I thought this was such a great touch–a complimentary ready-to-frame print of the view by a local artist.

I had specifically reserved this room knowing it had the best view of the river. Our plan was to have a picnic on the balcony and watch the sunset. Or, as Hyacinth Bucket (pronounced Bouquet) would say,  “I do *not* mean riverside picnic, Richard. I mean waterside supper with riparian entertainments.”

From past experience we knew the sky would be breathtaking:

However, change started to quickly roll in…

A delightful misty fog gave the day an ethereal feeling.

However, it became so heavy that it obscured our view almost completely.

A wedding party walked into the mist with their photographer for an hour long photo shoot. I felt so bad for them! They also had rented the Pineapple Ketch for a photo op of their wedding party on the boat, and that, too, was in the thick fog.

I hope their photos will still be beautiful. You just never know what will happen when you plan an outdoor wedding, especially on the coast of Maine. Perhaps the fog made their photos even lovelier and magical.

The fog hung around all evening so we lost our sunset view. We went to sleep early, or attempted to. I could hardly sleep because I was so excited about our wedding! That and we could hear the person in the room above us snoring! Instead of annoying us we thought it was funny, and it made me appreciate Wayne even more because he doesn’t snore.

The fog was still lingering in the morning.

We had a delightful breakfast companion.

He was sitting atop a wooden post by the window.

We always laugh at the way squirrels and chipmunks scratch themselves, it’s so cute.

Seems that I’m not the only one smitten with Wayne!

Soon it was time to get dressed for our wedding!

My husband is so handsome! I wore Art Deco inspired earrings.

Because it was both foggy and windy, I knew my naturally curly/frizzy hair would get totaled no matter how much hair product I used, so I wore it up with a jaw clip. (If the weather was dry and sunny I was going to wear it down).

I also wore crystal flowers in my hair.

My wedding dress was a 1930s inspired hand beaded navy blue gown made in the USA.

We used stand-ins sterling rings for our ring-bearer pillow.

Here I am handing off the real rings to Wayne to place in his pocket!

  1. All in all, it looked like a beautiful day for the blessed commitment of two beautiful people. Fog? A great gift. It under scored the mystical and the mystery of love and life.

  2. Averyl, that blue dress is stunning! And you look absolutely beautiful! I love that room, too. Blue, teal and seafoam green are my favorite colors. And of course, that little squirrel just put everything together in one charming package. 😉
