Our Wedding

Wayne and I had an intimate wedding ceremony at St. Ann’s Episcopal Church in Kennebunkport followed by a steak and lobster luncheon at The Colony Hotel. We want to share some of our special day with you. (New pics added 9/25!)

I took the above photo our of church a couple of weeks before our ceremony when in anticipation I imagined us standing in the doorway after our ceremony. Unlike that partly sunny day our wedding day was foggy so it obscured the ocean view. However, who cares, right?! It’s about a couple of “kids” from Scarborough getting hitched!

My ride from the Nonantum to the church was in this gorgeous 1951 Ford, a wedding gift from dear friends. (The ride, not the car!)

Wayne was waiting for me when we pulled in.

Kiki, wife of Rev. Peter Cheney, is the church administrator and our dear friend.

She took care of our final touches and basically most everything else including and especially me! I had a shoe issue right before this, and thankfully only one. While walking on the grass my heel dug into the ground so that when I lifted my foot, the shoe stayed put. That’s much better than my fears of falling during the ceremony! (Have you seen those YouTube videos of brides wiping out?!)

I was trying very hard to hold back happy tears.

I like this photo because it really shows the beauty of the hand-beading on my dress.

Wayne looked so sharp!

Greeting sisters from the Marie Joseph Spiritual Center.

Sister Aline Plante has been pivotal in my spiritual growth. Even though I am not Catholic she is loving and accepting and offers spiritual direction to all religious backgrounds. She is a beautiful person and we were so glad she came!

And now, our ceremony.

Peter said he would try to not get choked up during our ceremony which really moved us and again, it was hard to hold back tears. Peter is not just our pastor offering spiritual direction with humor but also a dear friend, confidant and Yankees fan, much to Wayne’s dismay. “We” (I didn’t tell Wayne beforehand) had gifted Peter a Yankee’s pen that I had hoped he would use to sign our marriage license, but being diplomatic he refrained.

After our ceremony we enjoyed spending time with our family, including church family, who traveled from all over including Italy, California, Connecticut, New Hampshire, New York City and New Jersey, at the historic Colony Hotel.

In lieu of wedding cake we had blueberry pie a la mode.

It was the best day of my life and the beginning of my life with my husband, Wayne!

In case you missed it:

Wayne proposed!

A second proposal!

  2. I just read and also enjoyed the pictures of your last two blogs. I want you to know they have brighten up my day and have put me in a great mood. I guess your joy spilled through and reached out to me. Hold on tight to each other and may you both have great joy. It is a little funny but I had just run across a picture from my wedding which I think I may write about and post next week. But all I really can say to you is congratulations.
