Recipe: Maine Thanksgiving Pumpkin Pie

(Originally published 11/22/2016 on my old blog, Outdated By Design.) I was talking to my 100 year old Nana on the phone yesterday (RIP my lovely Nana who passed this spring) and shared my Thanksgiving menu. She told me that she has never had pumpkin pie! She explained that she’s an apple pie girl. I was the same way, which makes sense since no one in my family ever served it to me until I had my first ever pumpkin pie last year and loved it.

A Vintage Inspired Yacht Being Built By Hand!

(Originally published 1/22/2017 on my old blog, Outdated By Design.)  Today I have a guest post from Wayne (the words are his, the pics, mine). We went to visit his friend Dave in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, where he is building a vintage inspired 32 foot wooden Lobster Yacht named “Calidris.” He’s building it by himself, by hand. Wayne has built, with help from the team he supervised, over twenty yachts during the course of his career and is happy to offer some advice to his friend. I was very inspired by Dave and his dedication to making his dream come to life. Enjoy!

Visit to St. Anthony Franciscan Monastery and Shrines, Kennebunk, Maine

(Originally published 2/5/2017 on my old blog, Outdated By Design.) A couple of years ago I acquired a vintage brochure for the Franciscan Monastery and Shrines in Kennebunkport, Maine. I assumed it was another place that no longer is.  Turns out it’s celebrating its 70th anniversary this year! (For some reason its location is now considered to be Kennebunk and not Kennebunkport). Wayne and I drove down to visit it this morning despite the February cold and snow-covered grounds. It’s open to the public year-round. Here are some of the beautiful sights:

Harvest on the Harbor Maine Chef Celebration, Portland Waterfront

(Originally published 10/21/2016 on my old blog, Outdated By Design.) A beautiful historic brick building filled with renowned Maine chefs preparing and offering their best dishes made with fresh local lobster?! Yup! Wayne and I went to Harvest on the Harbor Maine Chef Celebration this afternoon, or more aptly put, a Lobster Soiree!

Our Rainy Maine October Peak Fall Foliage Drive

(Originally published 10/9/2016 on my old blog, Outdated By Design.) It was another wet Sunday, but that’s alright because the bright fall colors really pop in this kind of lighting. See that panoramic pic above? That’s the first one I ever shot with my new water-resistant Samsung Galaxy S7 Active.

Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens & Lunch at McSeagull’s

(Originally published 8/8/2016 on my old blog, Outdated By Design.) Just got back from a great day trip. Not much to say, just lots of pics! Here we go to the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens followed by luncheon at McSeagull’s in Boothbay Harbor! (Not sure when people stopped calling lunch “luncheon.” I prefer the latter.)

A Morning Walk in Calvary Cemetery, South Portland, Maine

(Originally published 11/5/2016 on my old blog, Outdated By Design.) Calvary Cemetery in South Portland, Maine is one of my favorite places to walk in the late fall. I love the beautiful old growth trees, historic headstones dating to the 1800s and almost supernatural calm.
