Out Picking: Fabulous Flea Finds!

I headed to the Arundel flea market at 6:30 this morning, which may seem early but it’s actually on the late side! The dealers set up in the middle of the night and the best deals are to be had EARLY. There were a pair of beautifully matted and framed impressionist paintings, one of a garden, the other a still life, that I adored and the price was right! Out Picking: Falmouth, Maine Lion’s Club White Elephant Sale & Auction

I was first in line today, and my shadow shows the silhouette of my canvas tote that I brought in anticipation of filling with a few goodies. This is a very big annual event with a gigantic “White Elephant” sale that begins at 8:00 a.m. and a half-day long auction of furniture, antiques, boats, cars, and whatever other donations they received. Bangles from Heaven

Yesterday Wayne and I planned to go to an auction in Topsham late afternoon. We left early enough so that we would arrive with time to get a number and preview the items. Once on our way, less than a minute on the road, we hit standstill traffic. We ended up being delayed by almost an hour and came close to turning around.  I find myself missing my 100 year old Nana most when I am out picking since she was a lifetime picker, too, although she was more elegant so for her it was always “antiquing.” I called her every week to tell her about my latest adventures and finds. It was only last month that she passed away, just a little over a week after I visited her in Connecticut. So in that moment stuck in traffic her loss really hit me.  Continue reading “Bangles from Heaven”

Out Picking: An Unexpected Treasure in an Old Chest

Today while out picking I bought an old wood chest made from beadboard that works perfectly for storing gardening things in our sunroom. I love the weathered, rustic look with faded green paint. When I opened the trunk I saw something completely unexpected!  Continue reading “Out Picking: An Unexpected Treasure in an Old Chest”

Saturday Morning Picking at Yard Sales & Arundel Flea Market

We’re getting a spring Nor’easter tomorrow?! However, this morning was partly sunny and perfect for junkin’ as some of us like to call it. I went to a few yard sales and scored Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Jimi Hendrix and Lou Reed on vintage vinyl for $4 total. They needed a good cleaning but other than a smattering of cracks and pops they sound great! Continue reading “Saturday Morning Picking at Yard Sales & Arundel Flea Market”
